NO ESCAPE FROM PARADISE
The photographic series “No Escape from Paradise” by Eva Brunner presents nature as a multilayered, almost dreamlike space between reality and staging. In dense, atmospheric compositions, landscapes, the human body, and traces of civilization merge into a visual flow beyond clear notions of time and space. The human figure—embodied by Bernhard Kempen—appears in shifting states between vulnerability, performance, and dissolution into nature. The result is a poetic reflection on the relationship between humanity, nature, and the endless search for paradise.

SORGENFRI
„Das trifft es“, dachte ich mir, als ich auf dem Display des Busses „Next stop Sorgenfri“ las. Der Name des Stadtteils von TromsØ beschrieb genau, wie ich mich fühlte, als ich im Winter 2022 einige Wochen in Nordnorwegen verbrachte. Ich befand mich rund 350 km nördlich des Polarkreises und war weit weg von zu Hause, aber mir selbst fühlte ich mich ganz nah. Ich war sorgenfrei.
Die Bilder sind rätsel- und zauberhaft zugleich und erzählen die Geschichte einer unbeschwerten Winterreise.

With half a line from Hamlet's soliloquy “to be or not to be”, I immerse myself in a world between fantasy and reality, between authenticity and staging. As if in a daydream, I set off with my partner Bernhard - and his trans identity Barbara - on a journey through constantly changing scenarios in urban spaces, natural worlds, and theatrical settings. As in everyday life with my partner, there is no clearly defined separation between their identities.
Our threesomeness transposed and / or integrated into the concept of the book, combining two books into one, therefore, creating triptychs, that’s the real merit of Tomasz’ design.
